Must
visit - Medieval Provence:
Check out
Biot …
wandering around the charming lanes .. art galleries, a fantastic (air
conditioned!) handbag shop, Chez Odile is a fantastic restaurant where the menu
is decided each day based on the great produce she buys that day. The Auberge du
Coin also does a good set menu. Why not spend the morning here before
heading on down to our next recommendation!

For
the kids (and kids at heart!) check out
Marineland:
We went on the last Saturday in July .. a hot sunny day. We were
expecting huge crowds and to melt,
however our experience was fantastic. We went
with Daisy our 1½ year old and Louis our 3½ year old, took our pushchair
(though they did have pushchairs to borrow). Armed with lots of water, snacks for
the kids (to distract them when waiting between shows), sun-cream and big hats we
set off. We wanted to get our money’s worth, so we checked show times in
advance. Having been told it’s important to see the
Dolphins first - before the killer whales - we had an early lunch before heading off
to the park, arriving in time for the 2.15pm show.

In total we saw two
dolphin shows, one in daylight and a night time display with acrobats; three
different whale shows, including the pirate display which Louis loved; and the
Grand night-time Finale which Daisy stayed awake, for clapping with delight
(don’t sit in the front row!)
There are a couple of
play areas, aquariums etc.. which we visited between shows. We also had a
leisurely dinner at the Atlantis which has a nice view over the dolphin pool.
The tickets certainly
aren’t given away but, by planning ahead, we really got the most out of our day.
August may be busier but we couldn’t believe how easy it was to get around, no
queues, lots of toilets etc.. By bringing drinks and snacks (picnics aren’t
allowed) we cut costs and had a fantastic afternoon and evening out.

Cool
in a pool: If you’re not into sea swimming, then try the pool at
the Hotel Aston with rooftop views; or go to the Promenade, to Blue Beach, where
entrance to the swimming pool is very reasonable.
Our number one pool stop is St Laurent Du Var .. a couple of stops West of Nice by train. There is a
private sandy beach with sea front swimming pools at the
Calypso
and Transat Snack bar. At €10 for a mattress (2005 price) you can enjoy the feel of
white sand between your toes and cool off in one of three swimming pools (including
one for kids) or, of course, the sea.
With a shaded snack
restaurant that has some lovely (huge) salads, water sports and a play area with
toy cabins there’s something for everyone .. and just
a 10 minute walk East you will find yourself in a Shopping Centre with smaller shops like Mango, Naff Naff, Disney Store
plus a Gallery
Lafayette with a wonderful food hall.
